Thamel

Thamel is the eclectic and hedonistic beating heart of Kathmandu, and the home of the best restaurants, bars, clubs and shopping destinations in Nepal. Thamel is born out of the energy and spirit of the Nepali people and the necessity to accommodate and attract tourists, starting with the Hippies that arrived in the 60s for Nepal's famous cannabis serving coffee houses. Since the hippies exit of Nepal, Thamel has turned into a cosmopolitan hub evolving with the peoples and cultures that visit its narrow back alleys and streets as well as the ideas brought back to NEPAL by the migrants that have travelled to every corner of the globe.
